Who is Covered?

Employers

Covered
  • Eligible state government employers
  • Eligible local board of education employers
Not Covered
  • Employers other than the state government and local boards of education are not included in this program.
  • Rehired retirees receiving retirement annuity payments during the first 1040 hours of work performed each year.

 

 

 

Employees

Covered
  • Eligible state of Georgia employees and employees of local public school districts
  • Eligible employees classified as full-time by the employing entity after six months of continuous service and eligible hourly employees who have worked a minimum of 700 hours over the six months immediately before the requested paid parental leave date
  • The law extends to part-time, non-hourly employees who have worked at least 700 hours in the preceding six months (as well as hourly employees meeting the same parameters)
Not Covered
  • Employees other than state government and local boards of education are not included in this program.

Types of Leave

Parental

Up to 240 hours (six weeks)

Conditions:

  • Leave may be continuous or intermittent
  • Unused leave does not carry over, and has no cash value if an employee leaves voluntarily or involuntarily
  • Must be used within 12 months
  • Available to both mothers and fathers
