  • Part-time, full-time, temporary, and seasonal workers who spend more than 50% of their work hours in D.C.

Types of Leave

Family

Up to 12 weeks* in a 52-week period to care for a family member with a serious health condition 

Medical

Up to 12 weeks* in a 52-week period for employee's own serious health condition

Parental

Up to 12 weeks* in a 52-week period for birth and/or bonding with a new child; up to 2 additional weeks for prenatal leave

An applicant may receive a maximum of 12 weeks of benefits in a 52-week period for parental, family, and medical leave. Up to 2 additional weeks of prenatal leave is also available in circumstances where the applicant’s combination of medical leave and prenatal leave does not exceed 12 weeks during the 52-week period.

Benefit Amount: 90% of wages up to one and a half times D.C.'s minimum wage, and 50% of wages above 1.5 times D.C.'s minimum wage, up to the weekly cap.

Maximum weekly benefit = $1,049 adjusted annually for inflation


* The limits expressed above are for claims filed on or after claims October 1, 2022.
Claims filed before October 1, 2022 have fewer weeks of available leave.
