Notify Your Employer

Advanced Notice

If you plan to use paid leave for a qualifying event, you must give your employer at least 30 calendar days’ notice of foreseeable leave. If 30 days’ notice is not possible, you must provide notice as soon as possible under the circumstances. You can apply for PFMLI benefits up to 30 days before the date leave is expected to begin. You will need to update American Fidelity once you begin your leave because benefits will not be paid until after your leave starts.

Emergency Notice

If the need for leave is unexpected, you should give your employer as much notice as possible under the circumstances. You can submit a completed application for PFMLI benefits, together with all required supporting documents, up to 30 days after the leave has started.
